We all know the New Year brings a wave of new members eager to stick to their resolutions. Following the 2026 peak join season, Planet Fitness plans to increase the cost of its Black Card membership from $24.99 to $29.99 per month. The Black Card—Planet Fitness’s premium tier—offers unlimited guest visits, access to any location, massage chairs, tanning beds, and discounted drinks.

But these premium perks may be getting even better. Planet Fitness has been testing new amenities like dry cold plunge and red light therapy—two recovery methods that are growing in popularity but can often be pricey. The new offerings aim to give members a more elevated experience, according to CEO Colleen Keating. After all, today’s gym-goers are looking for more than just strength and cardio equipment. They're prioritizing recovery just as much. By combining affordable memberships with upgraded amenities, Planet Fitness could carve out a unique space in an ever-growing market.
With more than 2,500 locations, Planet Fitness still expects to open 160 to 170 new clubs this year, alongside 130 to 140 new franchise equipment placements. Demographic shifts, including population growth and Millennial migration, continue to support new club development and smaller club prototypes.
