Coastal Georgia Kayaking / Trip 2 – April 3rd – 4th
Join GCA member Kathryn Lapolla (ACA Level 3 instructor, co-owner of Savannah Coastal Ecotours) for a weekend exploring the varied ecosystems of the beautiful Georgia coast. On Saturday we’ll paddle 8-12 miles exploring expansive salt marsh waterways around Skidaway Narrows just south of downtown. Sunday we’ll go to Ebenezer Creek, a tributary of the Savannah River north of the city, and explore a blackwater river swamp with huge old-growth bald cypress and tupelo. This will be 6-9 miles. If we’re lucky the water will be high enough that we can paddle through the maze of tupelo forest. Magical! Kathryn will talk about these important ecosystems, their human and natural history, and share planning and route information so that you can return and explore these areas with confidence.
