Summer Solstice Sunset

0 5
Earlier this week I saw an invite to go paddling on the summer solstice. Unfortunately it was for a trip at the other end of the country, but it got me thinking I should get on the water for midsummer sunset too.The forecast was good – dry, sunny, very light winds. So I made sure to finish work on time, got an early tea, and headed out to my nearest bit of open water, Underbank Reservoir.

It wasn’t quite as quiet as I’d hoped because the activities centre there had a camping group on site, but their boisterousness faded quickly as I headed up the reservoir. Conditions on the water were perfection.

Glassy calm, the only ripples were of my own making. I stopped to enjoy the reflections at the top of the lake, and was treated to seeing a great crested grebe sat unconcerned by my presence on a clutch of eggs.

After a tranquil hour on the water, I returned home, catching the moment of sunset in the light on the water.

Recharged, refreshed mentally by my time on the water, I resolved to do this more often.
