Main Salmon: nature of the rapids?

Have an invitation to kayak on mid-July Main Salmon trip. From what I can determine there are a dozen plus fun big water rapids spread over about 80 miles. Other than these rapids that show up in the guides what is the rest of river like? Mostly flat water or lots of smaller but still interesting features? Went on Middle Fork trip and that was good mix of scenery and rapids. Am leaning toward the upcoming Main trip but wondering if it is 40 hours of driving for mostly the scenery or...
