New Sweet Helmet Modification

Hey Y'all,
Been using Sweet helmets for quite a long time and recently just bought a new rocker after retiring the old lid. This one seems to be significantly more snug on the sides (just behind temple). I figure it could be a manufacturer defect, however, a friend with a similar brand new 2020 lid has the same issue. Any thoughts on ways to widen the helmet by 1mm or so without having any issues with the overall integrity?
