Dana White: Cris Cyborg is ‘definitely fighting’ at UFC 214 against TBD opponent

0

UFC president Dana White revealed on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that Cris Cyborg will be on the July 29th pay-per-view card in Anaheim, California.

It looks as if we will be seeing Cris Cyborg compete at UFC 214 this summer, although we can definitely rule out one particular opponent.

Dana White said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that Cyborg is “definitely fighting on the July 29 card in Anaheim,” but they’re still working on finding her an opponent. Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson isn’t an option, as she’s confirmed to be defending her belt against Helena Kolesnyk on July 15th.

Cyborg (17-1, 1 NC) has fought twice in the UFC, recording TKO victories over Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg at 140 lbs catchweights. The 31-year-old is the former Strikeforce and Invicta FC featherweight champion, but prospects of getting to fight Germaine de Randamie for her UFC title look grim. Her past few months have been controversy-filled, including not getting first crack at the UFC women’s featherweight title, getting a retroactive TUE for spironolactone after she was flagged for a potential USADA violation, and most recently the dust-up with Angela Magana at the UFC Athlete Retreat.

“TBD” (0-0) has frequently been booked to compete on UFC shows across all weight divisions, men’s or women’s. Rather disappointingly, TBD still hasn’t fought inside the Octagon, so while fans may be excited to see what TBD looks like in the cage, don’t be surprised if TBD ends up being replaced at the last-minute.

UFC 214 is headlined by a light heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
