One of the few I always called Mr. and he was one of them:

Mr. Robert Redford is gone.

He died in his sleep on Tuesday, 16 September at home in Utah. He was 89.
Mr. Redford started acting on stage in the late 1950s, after which he appeared on TV in the 1960s and making his movie debut in “War Hunt”in 1962.

This movie was only the beginning of a career that spanned almost 60 years before retiring from acting in 2018.

His only Oscar nomination for acting was for his performance in “The Sting” in 1973.

In 1980 he made his directorial debut with “Ordinary People”, which won four Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor (Timothy Hutton), Best Picture and Best Director.
In 2002 he won an Honorary Lifetime Achievement Oscar.

In 1978 The Sundance Film Festival in Utah was founded by Mr. Redford and became one of the most influential festivals in the world and still is.

Mr. Redford was an activist throughout most of his career, fighting for environmental causes and used his status to raise awareness about clean energy, and was on the board of the Natural Resources Defense Council for decades.

He also lent his name and funding to a wildlife preserve in Utah.

Mr. Redford was born Charles Robert Redford Jr on 18 August, 1936 in Santa Monica, California.

He will be greatly missed.

He leaves behind his wife of 16 years, Sibylle Szaggars, and is survived by two daughters, Shauna and Amy.
