Jake Paul’s MVP stable adds five new women’s signings
Top prospect Sa’Rai Brown-El and world champions Jasmine Artiga and Desley Robinson are part of MVP’s latest signing spree.
Decorated American amateur Sa’Rai Brown-El and world champions Jasmine Artiga and Desley Robinson lead a new batch of five signings for Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
Along with those three, MVP have also inked former champs Yesica Nery Plata and Shannon Courtenay.
Brown-El, 19, is the fighter with by far the highest upside, as she’s young, a 19-time U.S. national champion as an amateur — that’s not a typo — and has been hailed by USA Boxing as “the future of women’s boxing.” She will make her pro debut with MVP, a company that has made major strides in essentially consolidating high-end women’s boxing under their banner, with this latest group of signings more movement in that direction.
- Artiga, 33, is a Tampa native and the reigning WBA super flyweight champion. She’ll return on MVP’s August 23 show at the Caribe Royale in Orlando. Artiga (13-0-1, 6 KO) will be facing top-ranked WBA contender Linn Sandstrom on that show, and last fought on March 22, narrowly defeating Regina Chavez by majority decision.
- Robinson, 37, is the unified IBF and WBO middleweight champion. The Australian was last out on April 11, convincingly defeating Chloe Chaos over 10 rounds to retain the IBF title and add the then-vacant WBO belt, improving to 10-3 (3 KO), and she probably stands as the top middleweight in the sport right now, though it has to be said that is a pretty empty division. Technically, she’s currently the undisputed champion with the IBF and WBO belts, as the WBC and WBA titles are vacant.
- The 31-year-old Nery Plata (30-2, 3 KO) hasn’t fought since December 2023, but that fight saw her go to Germany and beat Sarah Bormann to retain the WBC light flyweight title. She hasn’t lost a fight since 2017, and when active, really is a top of the line fighter. She does have a WBC title shot waiting for her against Lourdes Juarez, who won the belt after it was vacated.
- Courtenay (9-3, 3 KO) was heavily-pushed by Matchroom after turning pro in 2019, and did make her way to winning the WBA bantamweight title in 2021 with a victory over Ebanie Bridges in an outstanding action fight. The 31-year-old’s “party girl turned disciplined boxer” story has been told many times in many video packages. She’s also had repeated trouble making weight — including her losses to Rachel Ball in 2020, Jamie Mitchell in 2021, and Catherine Tacone in 2024. Last time out she beat journeywoman Bec Connolly on March 14. When dialed in, Courtenay is an exciting fighter
