The WBC laid out their champions’ marching orders in yesterday’s monthly update

The WBC posted its monthly “Champions Status” report yesterday, laying out its slate of upcoming title bouts. Among the new tidbits:

  • Whoever wins the July 27th interim super middleweight title bout between Christian Mbilli and Maciej Sulecki must make “two mandatory defenses,” one of them ostensibly against the winner of Hamzah Sheeraz vs Edgar Berlanga. Canelo, the actual champion, apparently does not.
  • A super welterweight eliminator rematch between Vergil Ortiz Jr and Serhii Bohachuk is “pending,” which I’m certain most folks here will support.
  • O’Shaquie Foster vs Stephen Fulton will apparently land on the July 19th Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao show instead of the originally planned date of August 16th.
  • Featherweight champion in recess Rey Vargas will take on no. 5 Carlos Castro, with the winner moving on to meet the winner of Bruce Carrington vs Mateus Heita.
  • Andrew Cain will fight Jair Gonzalez in a bantamweight final eliminator.
  • Panya Pradasbri will rematch Carlos Canizales for the light flyweight belt on August 1st. Pradasbri robbed Canizales blind in Bangkok last December but will head to Canizales’ home turf of Caracas, Venezuela for the sequel.
