‘I want what the fans want’: Eubank likely to rematch Benn before end of the year
Chris Eubank says a Conor Benn rematch is the fight fans want to see and he’s happy to oblige.
Following the success of their first fight, it looks as if Chris Eubank Jr will be set up for a rematch with Conor Benn. Eubank, who appeared on a recent podcast to discuss his next move, said the rematch with Benn is in high demand and likely to take place before the end of this year.
“Contractually, that is what is on paper,” Eubank Jr told the Diary of a CEO podcast. “It’s very likely that fight will happen again at some point this year. I want what the fans want. If the fans want to see it next, who am I to say no?” he added. “The demand for this Conor Benn fight is at an all-time high right now so I feel like that would be the fight to make next.”
Eubank, of course, came out on top in his long awaited showdown with Benn, who had moved up in weight just to make this fight happen. Many thought the disparity in size would be too much for Benn, and even if you still believe that to be the case Benn was able to at least give a good account of himself with plenty of back and forth action.
In the aftermath of Eubank’s win he required treatment from a local hospital, but says it was more to do with dehydration than any actual punches he took in the fight. Eubank has been vocal about wanting a chance to fight Canelo Alvarez, but with Canelo currently booked up through the rest of the year a Benn rematch might be the next best thing he can get.
