MANDAUE CITY, CEBU, PHILIPPINES – Vicente Unidos kept his unbeaten streak and made it a short night for everyone, dropping Remar Andonga twice with heavy body shots in the opening round.
Referee Rafael Osumo stopped it at the 2:03 mark.
Unidos (4-0, 3 KO’s) , from the Chao Sy stable of Cebu, was awarded the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight belt for his effort. This was the second career loss for Andonga (5-2, 2 KO’s).
Junibert Bantay (8-0,1KO) also kept his unblemished pro record when he dropped Chinese boxer Tangjiaerke Ashihaer (2-3) twice en route to a lopsided six round unanimous win. Bantay ambushed Ashihaer in the opening round, showing good lateral movement and dropping Ashihaer with a quick shot.
Bantay kept his momentum, as the taller Ashihaer tried to rally, Bantay again knocked him down in the third. Bantay used hit and run tactics to keep his lead until the final bell. The scores – 59-53 from all three judges – Noel Flores, Arnel Pasion and Rafael Osumo.
Bantay had previously beaten Remar Andonga by unanimous decision last February in Ilocos Sur.
In the opening bout, Dave Peñalosa (19-1, 12 KOs) faced Vicente Casido (6-7-1, 2 KO’s) in a rematch of their six rounder last February. Peñalosa also won that fight but was facing stamina issues in the later rounds. He was more impressive this time, scoring a knockdown, almost stopping Casido in the fifth.
Peñalosa won the scores of 58-55 from judge Noel Flores and 59-54 from judges Romar Embodo and Arnel Pasion. The 34 year old Peñalosa, a former WBO Oriental featherweight titleholder, has only fought thrice since 2023. He is the son of former two-division world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa.
The fights were held at the Insular Square Mall in Mandaue City, Cebu and promoted by Lorenzo Chao Sy.
