Ryan Garcia open to boxing match against Jake Paul: ‘He’s not as good as he thinks he is in his head’

Ryan Garcia is currently involved a lawsuit involving Logan Paul but that won’t stop him from potentially seeking out a fight against his brother Jake Paul.

The 26-year-old boxer addressed his feelings towards the Paul brothers recently after he previously struck up a friendship with Jake but then ended up at odds with Logan. The main fallout stemmed from comments Garcia made about Logan’s Prime Energy drink company, which led to a defamation lawsuit being filed against the boxer.

While that situation still has to be resolved, Garcia says he actually doesn’t hold any ill will towards Jake even if he’s embroiled in a legal battle with his brother.

“I really don’t have an issue with Jake,” Garcia told Ring Champs. “I have an issue with Logan. I didn’t like at the time he was saying I’m crazy, I’m this, I’m that when I was talking about sex trafficking and trying to raise awareness on it. I kind of wilded out on him and that’s where our beef started.

“I said f*ck you, I don’t like drinking your drink — I’m not going to say it right now because obviously I’m sued — and then that’s where that animosity started.”

As far as fighting goes, Garcia already has his hands full with a matchup booked against Rolly Romero in May and a win could lead him to a rematch against Devin Haney.

Still, when asked about potentially clashing with Jake Paul in the ring, Garcia didn’t back down from the challenge, especially knowing the financial windfall that might come his way from a fight of that magnitude. He’d give up a lot of weight in the fight but Garcia believes that only prolongs Jake’s fate a little while longer.

“Why not?” Garcia said about fighting Paul “Of course [I’d give up weight]. There’s value in the fight. We’re going to make a bunch of money. He obviously thinks he’s going to win but again this is what I see that he’s not as good as he thinks he is in his head.”

Jake’s most recent fight ended in a decision after he engaged in an eight-round contest against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. The fight saw more than 100 million people tune in to watch on Netflix and that matchup only raised Paul’s profile even more in the boxing community.

Now it’s tough to say how much praise Jake earned beating up a 58-year-old aging veteran like Tyson but that bout told Garcia everything he needed to know.

“Five rounds, four rounds because of his weight maybe?” Garcia said. “But he didn’t even do anything to Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson’s 60 [years old] wobbling on his own self.”

Garcia’s interest in facing Jake Paul comes down to business for him because he knows how lucrative that fight might be for the both of them.

That said, Garcia promises there’s no bitter feelings towards Jake, no matter what’s going on during his continued legal battle against Logan.

“I don’t really have beef with Jake, even to this day,” Garcia said. “He might have beef with me.”
