Reito Tsutusmi begins professional career, to debut in May!

0 6
Earlier today Shisei Promotions held a press conference to announce that former amateur sensation Reito Tsutsumi [堤麗斗] has turned professional, with the 23 year old set to begin his professional journey with a A class license, becoming only the third fighter in history to do so, following Ryota Murata and Tomoya Tsuboi.

The sensational Tsutsumi, the younger brother of the world ranked Hayato Tsutsumi (6-0, 3) [堤駿斗], went a frankly ridiculous 59-2 in the unpaid ranks whilst winning 5 high school titles, an All Japan Championship and the World Youth Championship. An amateur pedigree that has allowed him to set his sights on an A class license, an 8 round debut, and the fats track to the top, much like his older brother.

In his pro-test bout, which will take place on March 21st at Korakuen Hall, Tsutsumi will spar with former regional champion Yoshimitsu Kimura (16-3-1, 10) [木村吉光].

At the press conference Tsutsumi explained "I've always wanted to go pro. I'm aiming for an impactful match that makes people think, 'Wow, this guy is amazing.' The tense pro test in front of an audience is a good experience. I want to show a performance that makes people want to go see the match."

Regarding the match, Tsutsumi's professional debut will take place in May against an Asian ranked fighter.

Despite how highly regarded Tsutsumi is, there doesn't appear to be the intention to have a super jet strapped to his back. Instead of fighting for a world title in 6 or 7 fights, like some top Japanese fighters, Tsutsumi is willing to wait a little bit whilst campaigning at Featherweight, explaining "There are no Japanese world champions in this weight class. I understand that it will be a tough road. My ideal would be to become world champion in my 10th fight. I want to keep challenging strong fighters and aim to win multiple weight classes and become a unified champion."

Talking about his brother, it appears there is some rivalry between Reito and Tsutsumi, though a  respectful rivalry "My brother is someone I respect, but he's also my rival. I want to improve to the point where one day we'll both be the main event at the same event. My greatest weapons are my explosive power and the sharpness of my punches. I want to defeat my opponent in a spectacular fashion, without giving him a chance to do anything. I want to have matches that will have more of an impact than my brother."
