Shawn Porter thinks Brock Jarvis needs to push the pace against Keith Thurman if he wants a chance to win.

Shawn Porter takes some time to talk with boxing media about his analysis of this weekend’s fight between Keith Thurman and Brock Jarvis as he debates whether or not he thinks Thurman still has enough in the tank to beat someone like Tim Tszyu. Porter says he will have to see how Thurman and Tszyu look in their upcoming fights as he questions whether Jarvis has it in him to upset Thurman.

Porter on Thurman vs Jarvis

“I think it’s a 60/40 fight. I think that Keith can control the range, the distance, the rhythm, the speed, the tempo, all that. Brock’s got to put it on him and Brock’s got to really push his heart rate and if he does that I think he could kind of pull this one out but we’ll see.

“I haven’t seen a good jab from Brock and as tall as he is he needs a jab, especially against Keith. Keith uses this rhythm and then he goes off of that rhythm and he starts to do different things. The jab really just stabilizes the opponent. That would be a key, [Brock] doesn’t really have that jab.”

On whether Thurman could beat Tszyu

“I think between Keith’s inactivity and the way the last fight from Tim went, it’s kind of 50/50. We’ll have to analyze that question after this fight and after Tim fights Joey [Spencer].”

On what version of Thurman we could see this weekend

“I honestly think the best version of Keith we saw was the Keith that fought me, the Keith that fought Danny. I think He had some injuries in his fight with Danny but I think that those are the two best versions we saw.

“I think the best versions of Keith we saw were 2016, 2017. Can he be that again? I don’t know because he was training at such a high level even then. I think now he kind of coasts himself through training to keep himself healthy and fit and things like that.

“I don’t know what grade I can give Keith now. I can’t imagine he’s an A+ fighter the way he used to be. I can imagine him being a B+ fighter now. I think even a B+, B- fighter beats Jarvis. Does that beat Tszyu? I don’t know.”
