Harper vs Zimmermann and Hughes vs Sharp set for May 23
Terri Harper’s first lightweight title defense will headline a DAZN show in Doncaster
After handing Rhiannon Dixon her first pro defeat to claim the WBO lightweight title last September, Terri Harper will headline a May 23rd DAZN show in Doncaster opposite Natalie Zimmermann.
Harper (15-2-2, 6 KO), a former super featherweight titlist who ran afoul of Alycia Baumgardner in 2021, came up short in bids for super welterweight and welterweight gold in the last couple years. A 2023 clash with the returning Cecilia Braekhus produced a controversial draw, while a subsequent showdown with Sandy Ryan saw “Belter” stopped in four.
The 42-year-old Zimmermann (13-0, 3 KO) poses zero threat on paper, boasting no wins over opponents with winning records.
The evening’s other major attraction pits Maxi Hughes (28-7-2, 6 KO) against Archie Sharp (25-1, 9 KO). Hughes is coming off a rout of Gary Cully for his second consecutive win since the William Zepeda debacle, while Sharp’s lengthy and fruitless spot atop the WBO lightweight rankings ended last July with a loss to Ryan Garner.
