UFC Fight Night 252 live updates: Results, round-by-round coverage of every fight
UFC Fight Night 252 took place Saturday, and MMA Junkie had you covered with live round-by-round coverage throughout the entire card. UFC Fight Night 252 (ESPN+) took place at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Former flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo (16-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) tried to snap a two-fight skid since he unretired when he met Song Yadong (22-8-1 MMA, 11-3-1 UFC) in the main event. Middleweight standouts Brendan Allen (24-7 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and Anthony Hernandez (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) met in the co-feature.

Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong
Round 1 – Cejudo quickly takes the center, and the feel out process begins as the crowd loudly chants “U-S-A.” Song fires a punch, prompting Cejudo to blitz with a combo. Song slaps with a leg kick. Cejudo lands a body kick, then threatens a takedown before coming up high with a punch. Song punches to the body, adding a leg kick after. Cejudo comes forward with kicks now as the chants from the crowd resume. Cejudo charges forward after a leg kick from Song. Cejudo lands again, and it appears that Song’s foot failed to respond for moment as he stepped akwardly. Cejudo kicked to the same leg again, but Song appears to be fine. Song times a few nice counters and lands a few clean punches in the closing seconds.

Round 2 – Cejudo works leg kicks early and blizes with punches. Song stays light on his feet on the outside. Cejudo darts in again, but gets caught with a counter. Song turns up the pressure a little bit and lands again. Song lands another punch and Cejudo waves him in. Song obliges, connecting with another right. They trade leg kicks. Now punches upstairs are exchanged. Song quickly sprawls a takedown threat, but Cejudo didn’t fully commit. Cejudo takes Song off balance with a leg kick. Song lands a solid punch as Cejudo looks to change levels again. Cejudo lands a nice right hand to get Song’s attention. Another combination for Cejudo. Song threatens a single leg, but lets it go. Cejudo lands again, but Song also finds home for an uppercut. They’re trading now in the closing seconds. Both connect before returning to their stools. Song’s nose is bloodied.

Round 3 – Song comes out aggressively with punches, ripping a clean one to the body. Cejudo is game to answer and lands a nice left. The fast exchanges continue, but it’s Song getting the better of it now. Cejudo keeps coming forward. He leaps for a knee but misses badly. Song kicks to the body after Cejudo lands a left. Cejudo comes forward with punches but a kick from Song lands low, pausing the fight. The action resumes with Song pressuring with punches. More fast exchanges. Song steps in with a solid knee. Song smiles as he continues to get the better of the striking exchanges. A moment later, Cejudo cracks him with a right hand. Oh no. Cejudo gets poked in both eyes as Song extends his fingers. It looks nasty on the replay too.
Cejudo took the entire five minutes before resuming. No point was taken.
On the restart, Song comes forward aggressively, with his hands wide open, somehow with no warning from the referee. He’s aggressive with strikes. Cejudo is just on survival mode until the end of the round.

Round 4 – Between rounds, Cejudo repeatedly says he can’t see. The referee says he needs to start the round first and they’ll go to the scorecards since Cejudo can’t continue due to the eye poke. All sorts of confusion between both corners, but the fight goes to the scorecards.

Brendan Allen vs. Anthony Hernandez
Round 1 – They touch ’em up and Allen opens with a nice leg kick. Chants for Hernandez fill the arena as Allen continues to attack early. Hernandez catches a kick, and somehow Allen jumps on the back, leading to a wild scramble for position on the ground. Hernandez ends up on the back, but Allen quickly scrambles to his feet. Hernandez keeps the clinch, working for a takedown and gets it. Hernandez looks for the back, but gets too high, giving up top control to Allen. Staying heavy on top, Allen threatens submissions. A keylock isn’t there, and neither is a choke, but Allen closes out the round with ground and pound.

Round 2 – Allen opens with a leg kick. Hernandez charges forward to complete an early takedown. Hernandez slaps on a guillotine, but Allen gets his head out. Allen tries to throw up his legs to create a scramble, but Hernandez floats well. Another choke attempt now, but it’s still not there. Allen tries to explode to his feet and also look for a single leg, but Hernandez sprawls nicely to keep top control, ending up on the back. Allen explodes now though and he’s on the back. Now it’s Allen with a face crank. Hernandez shakes it off and stands, shucking Allen off his back. Now it’s Hernandez back on top looking for ground and pound until the horn.

Round 3 – A punch from Hernandez pauses the fight because Allen thought it was an eye poke. The replay clearly shows a closed fist. The fight resumes, and Allen is on hte hunt. He lands a big punch and Hernadnez backs away, covering up. Allen eats a counter, but he keeps coming forward. Hernandez gets in on the hips and works to drag Allen down to a knee. Allen works up, but gets dragged down again. It’s impressive control from Hernandez as he adds a few knees to the body. Allen is just smothered here as time ticks away. Allen finds an escape to reverse the position, but can’t keep it. Hernandez quickly reverses, adding ground and pound until the final horn.

Round 1 – They touch gloves, but Font immediately fires off a combination before Matsumoto pulls his fist back. He continues to blitz forward with punches backing Matsumoto into the fence. Matsumoto changes levels, resulting in a clinch along the cage. Font works his way free and fires off more punches before they return to the middle. Matsumoto finds a clean right counter that backs up Font. Now Matsumoto comes forward. They go to the mat after a clinch and Font looks for an omoplata, then a kimura. Matsumoto escapes both and takes top half guard. Matsumoto slaps on a guillotine as Font tries to scramble to his feet. Font gets free, but Matsumoto rains down a few hard punches. Font gets to this feet, but Matsumoto has the back, and slams him to the ground just before the horn.

Round 2 – Font comes out aggresively with punches. Matsumoto responds with kicks and punches of his own before shooting for a takedown. Font looks for a guilloine, but Matsumoto quickly escapes and works to maintain control on the ground. Font gets up momentarily, but is dragged back to the mat. Font gets back to his feet and gets back to the hunt with punches. Matsumoto answers with leg kicks, but the punches from Font are sharper here. Matsumoto gets another nice takedown. Font gets up, but is returned with another big slam. Font threatens a kimura to get back up. With 30 seconds to go, Font comes forward behind his left jab, leading the exchanges until Matsumoto sneaks in a head kick.

Round 3 – Font gets right back to forward pressure behind the left jab. Matsumoto lands leg kicks and a nice uppercut. Font adds a kick to the body now. Matsumoto gets sliced open somehow as they exchange punches. Matsumoto clinches and Font gets in a nice knee. They separate and exhange more strikes. Font comes in for the takedown now, but it’s not there. More strikes are traded. Font clinches again, Matsumoto reverses the position, but can’t get a takedown. Font lands a nice short elbow as they battle in the clinch. Another nice right from Font. One minute to go. The clinch battle against the fence continues. The crowd wakes up as they start unloading strikes. They’re just brawling now! Matsumoto spins repeatedly. Font lands. They’re both looking for the kill shot but it doesn’t come. There’s the final horn and the crowd shows their appreciation for the wild finish.

Melsik Baghdasaryan vs. Jean Silva
Round 1 – Baghdasaryan takes the center to start, while the crowd chants for Silva. Nothing of significane lands in the first minute. Silva’s first big strike attempt is a head kick that is blocked. Silva moves around with a smile on his face, almost as if he knows something that everyone else doesn’t. Another head kick is blocked. Silva goes to the body with his next kick. Baghdasaryan continues to bounce around on the outside. Silva closes in with a nice punch at the halfway mark. Silva lands again, then lands a spinning kick to the body. Baghdasaryan narrowly misses with a big punch and a head kick. Silva steps in with an elbow, then points at Baghdasaryan. Silva ramps up the taunts and they shake hands before getting back to it. Silva lands a left hook and BANG! The right hand sits Baghdasaryan down! Silva stands over him and gestures, but the referee doesn’t stop the fight. Silva unloads a few more punches as Baghdasaryan covers up. Now, it’s enough for the ref, and the celebration is on for Silva.

Alonzo Menifield vs. Julius Walker
Round 1 – They touch ’em up, and the inital exchange leads to a quick clinch by Walker, putting Menifield’s back against the cage. Walker adds a couple of knees t othe body as they jockey for position. The crowd doesn’t like the action, but Walker looks for a double leg. Menifield keeps things standing. On the exit, Walker cracks Menifield with a couple of big punches and immediately clinches again. They separate. Walker goes for a high kick and takes himself off balance. He gets up and defends a clinch from Menifield. Now Walker is back on the charge. Menifield gets space and cracks Walker with a punch. Walker looks to clinch, but Menifield isn’t having it. Menifield starts unloading big punches! Walker is in real trouble here as he covers up. Somehow, he weathers the storm to clinch. A few more big shots from both land before the horn.

Round 2 – Both come out offering punches as Walker stalks forward. Walker gets in on the clinch, but Menifield separates fairly quickly this time. Walker continues to come forward with strikes, and then looks for another takedown, but can’t can’t get it. Short punches land for both in the clinch. Back in the center now. Walker offers a few punches before clinching. Menifield gets away and then comes forward with a combination. Both men are very labored now. Menifield starts to come forward a little more as Walker’s movement gets worse. They both swing and miss, but Walker finally gets a takedown in the closing seconds.

Round 3 – They touch gloves to start the first Round 3 of the evening, but an eye poke from Menifield pauses the action briefly. Back to the action, Walker’s mouthpiece comes out for another short pause. Now we’re back to it, and they’re swining heavy punches. Walker gets in a nice kick to the body. Menifield answers with a left. Walker digs in for a knee to the body, but it goes low, and we have another break in the fight. After the restart, Menifield lands clean punches. Walker goes to the body with a kick. Menifield looks for an uppercut as Walker comes foward to clinch. Two minutes to go. Menifield defends the takedown well as the crowd boos. Back to the center with 75 seconds left. Menifield lands a punch. The action is slow now, but Menifield comes forward, connecting with punches before the horn.

Round 1 – Aslan takes the center. Cutelaba offers a leg kick to start the action, followed by a couple of kicks to the body. Cutelaba looks for a big overhand punch, but Aslan evades and fires back. They resent momentarily, and start letting hammers fly in a wild exchange. Aslan appears to get the better of it. More wild punches are thrown by both. Cutelaba decides to change things up with a takedown. Aslan gets free, and Cutelaba offers a wild spinning punch on the exit. Cutelaba then lands a punch that stubles Aslan! Another takedown for Cutelaba. Ground and pound now. Cutelaba steps off to the side with an arm triangle choke and it’s tight! The squeeze continues and the ref check’s Aslan’s arm. There’s the tap and the celebration is on for Cutelaba!

Round 1 – “U-S-A” chants for Fili to start here. Costa looks for a leg kick and then a couple to the body. Fili comes foward with a jab, but is met with more leg kicks. Another hard kick to the body from Costa appears to have been blocked. Fili rips a combination, catching Costa clean. Costa spins with a kick, but misses the target. Fili gets in a kick to the body. They continue trading strikes at a steady pace as they cover a lot of space in the octagon. They take turns offering head kicks. One minute to go. Fili kicks to the body and evades one in return, then taunts. Now Fili changes levels and gets a takedown. Costa slaps on a guillotine. Fili looks like he might be trapped. Costa keeps squeezing. There’s the tap! Beautiful finish for Costa!

Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Nick Klein
Round 1 – They touch’em up and start sizing each other up as Abdul-Malik stalks foward. Klein offers a kick and then ducks under a punch from Abdul-Malik, looking for a single leg. It’s sprawled nicely, though. Klein kicks to the body and then the inside leg. Abdul-Malik continues to patiently stalk forward. Klein grabs another single leg attempt, but it’s defended well. A spinning back elbow out of nowhere wobbles Abdul-Malik! Klein rushes in! He gets the takedown, but Abdul-Malik works up and prevents follow-up punches well. Klein stays attached to him, grinding him against the cage. Eventually Abdul-Malik gets free and looks for a spinning elbow of his own just seconds before the horn.

Round 2 – Abdul-Malik comes out with a little more aggression as he works behind a jab. Klein is able to change levels for a single leg, and the wrestling game is on again along the fence. Abdul-Malik gets free and lands a jab. Klein touches with leg kicks. Abdul-Malik gets close, and once again Klein looks for a single leg. Abdul-Malik catches a kick and shoves Klein to the ground. Abdul-Malik swarms with huge punches. He’s completely unloading! This barrage is furious! There it is, the ref has seen enough!

Javid Basharat vs. Ricky Simon
Round 1 – The tradition of “U-S-A” chants to start the fights tonight continues, this time in support of Simon, who is from the PNW. After the opening exchanges, Simon finds a standing back take, lifts and dumbs Basharat to the canvas, but can’t keep the fight on the ground. Simon closes in for another takedown, but Basharat gets away. “Ricky” and “Let’s go Ricky” chants alternate from the crowd. Basharat steps in with a nice knee and punches. Simon charges foward with punches to set up a level change. Basharat keeps it standing, and gets away. Basharat lands a sharp left. A hard knee to the midsection gets through for Basharat. Simon steps in and sleeps Basharat out of nowhere with a wicked two-punch combo! WOW! Basharat is out cold!

Austin Vanderford vs. Nikolay Veretennikov
Round 1 – Chants of “U-S-A” echo through the arena as this one gets underway. Vanderford lands a couple of quick jabs. Veretennikov lunges forward with a left. A 1-2 combination not far behind it. Vanderford changes levels nicely for a clean takedown. Vanderford looks for ground and pound while Veretennikov tries his best to keep him pulled in close. Vanderford gets in a couple of solid elbows, opening a cut. Vanderford threatens an arm triangle, but lets it go. He looks for it again though a moment later with short time on the clock. Vanderford gives up on it again and tries to get in some more ground and pound.

Round 2 – Vanderford looks to go right back to his wrestling game. He lifts Veretennikov and gets him down after some initial resistance. More ground and pound from the top with elbows and big punches. Vanderford traps a wrist underneath and really starts to unload with big left hands. The referee steps in closer. Veretennikov is stuck. More punches unanswered and that’s it! TKO finish for Vanderford! Veretennikov gets up and walks over, shoving Vanderford for some post-fight drama.

Round 1 – They touch ’em up, and McConico starts the action with an inside leg kick. The crowd chants “U-S-A” to show their support for McConico as the feel-out process continues. Those chants quickly turned into boos as neither fighter offer offense. Ruziboev swings with a big right hand that just misses. McConico is staying cautious as he circles to his right. Ruziboev blitzes forward with punches and catches a kick, driving McConico into the cage. Not much comes from the clinch, and they’re back in the center. Ruziboev darts forward with a punch, and a few more a moment later.

Bukauskas fires back with a big left hand! Cerqueira is hurt! Bukauskas swarms for the finish! Each punch goes unanswered and Cerqueira crashes to the mat. It’s over!
