Earlier today it was announced that WBC Female Lightweight champion Caroline Dubois (10-0-1, 5) would make her second defense on March 7th, as she takes on unheralded Korean challenger Bo Mi Re Shin (18-2-3, 10) [신보미레] at the Royal Albert Hall in England.
Dubois, the sister of IBF Heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, is a 24 year old who dominated on the Youth and Junior amateur scenes, winning titles from English youth level to World Youth Level, and the Youth Olympics. She turned professional in 2022 and had a rocket strapped to her, winning her first 6 bouts in little over a year, stopping 5 of those 6 opponents. Since stepping up a level however her power hasn’t carried up, but her skills have had a chance to shine as she’s gone 4-0-1, beating the likes of Yanina del Carmen Lescano, Magali Rodrigiuez, Miranda Reyes and Maira Moneo, before having her recent bout with Jessica Camara being halted early after Camara was cut from a headclash. In the ring she has proven to be a very versatile fighter, who despite not scoring a stopped since her 6th bout has been dropping opponents and clearly has some pop, even if it’s not fighting ending
As for Shin, who was notable featured on Series 1 of the “Physical 100” reality TV show which is very much worth a watch on Netflix, she had long been the Korean #2 behind Hyun Mi Choi, however with Choi now being 34 and looking very much a faded fighter recently, this is a great chance for Shin to show what she can do at the top level. The 30 year old Shin has been a professional since 2016, and started her career 3-0-3. Since then however she has gone 15-2 and scored notable wins against the likes of Chika Mizutani, Iranda Paola Torres, Diana Rodriguez and Ana Maria Lozano, and losses to Thi Linh Tran and Delfine Persoon, both on the road.. Notably Shin has something of the stereotypical Korean boxing style about her, coming forward, throwing a lot, with somewhat open defenses and a decent bit of fire power.
Given the styles of the two women involved this should be a very fun fight, and whilst Shin will clearly be the under-dog, she might have the style to drag Dubois into the wrong sort of fight, and make for a very fan friendly battle.
