Santiago Ponzinibbio reveals ideal UFC 314 opponent for Miami
LAS VEGAS – The UFC is rumored to head back to Miami this Spring and Santiago Ponzinibbio wants in.
Following his UFC Fight Night 249 win, Ponzinibbio (30-8 MMA, 12-7 UFC) called for a spot on the card expected for April 12 in his current home state – and backstage he revealed his ideal opponent for that outing.
“There are so many good names,” told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “So many good guys come to mind (who) have a long time in the road like me. We can make a great fight. I need to think quickly.
“Maybe Vicente Luque is a name that comes into my mind because the guy has so many years in the sport like me. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s a gentleman. He’s coming off a really good victory. We both have a lot of Latin people behind us and we can make a good fight. But there are so many good guys. We’ll see what the company says.”
Ponzinibbio finished Carlston Harris (19-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) with strikes in Round 3 of Saturday’s co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The win snapped a two-fight skid.
Luque (23-10-1 MMA, 16-6 UFC) most recently competed in December when he slept Themba Gorimbo in 52 seconds with an anaconda choke.
