Kenshiro Vs Rosales for WBC Flyweight title expected in October

0 9
Over the weekend Nicaraguan news outlet tn8 tv reported that a deal had been reached to crown a new WBC Flyweight champion, with their fighter, and former champion, Cristofer Rosales (37-6, 22) set to take on unified Light Flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji (23-1, 14) [寺地 拳四朗], who is set to move up in weight.

The news outlet reports that the bout will take place in October, in Japan.

The bout will see Kenshiro move up in weight after struggling to lure one of the other champions at Light Flyweight into the ring with him, having made it clear that if he can’t land a bout to add either the WBO or IBF titles to his collection, which features the WBA “super” and WBC titles, he was looking to become a 2-weight world champion. It will also mark his return to the ring after a very, very tough win over Carlos Canizales back in January. That win saw Kenshiro require time out of action for surgery, for his right hand, which has taken some time to recover, with it still not being 100% back in mid-May when he featured as a guest as part of a special event in Sumida Ward.

As for Rosales, who is still somehow only 29, the bout will see him return to the country where he scored his biggest career win, his 2018 upset against Daigo Higa for the WBC Flyweight title. Since that win he has had mixed success, scoring a single going 10-3, with notable losses against Charlie Edwards, Julio Cesar Martinez and Angel Ayala Lardizabal. Despite those set backs he has won his last 5, including wins over Joselito Velazquez and Abraham Medina.

It would seem likely that this will be part of an Amazon Prime show in Japan, though at the time of writing specific details on broadcaster and venue are yet to be reported.
