Thattana Luangphon expected to face Sam Goodman in June

0 8
Earlier unbeaten Thai fighter Thattana Luangphon (25-0-1, 15), aka Rock man or Chainoi Worawut, posted on his Facebook that he had secured a fight with unbeaten Australian fighter Sam Goodman (18-0, 8), revealing that the bout would be taking place in Australia on June 19th.

This is especially interesting news given that there has been much speculation that Goodman, who climbed into the ring on Monday to join Unified Super Bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24) [井上尚弥], would be challenging the Monster in September.

Of course a bout between Goodman and Luanghphon doesn’t scupper that bout, especially with the June date, it does risk the plans falling apart, for example if Goodman suffers a cut, or an injury or worse yet a loss to the Thai. It also gives enough time for the bout to work as a prospective warm up, or tune up bout, for Goodman, who would have been out of the ring for 6 months between his last fight, in March, and a proposed September date, though it is a short turn around from June to September.

If the bout does take place, as is being speculated, it might be lined up as little more than a tune up, albeit against a world ranked and dangerous Thai opponent, with plenty of power, who could see the bout as a huge opportunity for himself to secure a bout with Inoue. It could however serve to delay a potential Goodman Inoue bout, and open the door for Inoue to face someone else in September, such as former WBA/IBF Super Bantamweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev (12-1, 9) [Ахмадалиев, Муроджон Кахарович], who is the current WBA mandatory challenger. It really does depend on whether Goodman comes through the bout unscathed.
