UFC 264: Bisping thinks McGregor could retire if he loses to Poirier on Saturday

“If he (Conor McGregor) loses, I think there’s a potential that he might retire. I really do”.

Michael Bisping thinks Conor McGregor could retire if he loses to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, claiming that the former two-division champion would have nothing left to fight for.

McGregor has been relatively inactive since 2018 and has been finished in two of his last three fights, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov via submission at UFC 229, bouncing back with a TKO victory over Donald Cerrone and then suffering a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in their lightweight rematch at UFC 257.

Bisping has the utmost respect for McGregor and his accomplishments but can see no reason for ‘The Notorious’ to continue fighting should he lose to ‘The Diamond’ for a second time at UFC 264.

“If he (Conor McGregor) loses, I think there’s a potential that he might retire. I really do,” Bisping said on a recent episode of Believe You Me (h/t MiddleEasy). “If he’s not going to be the champ, and that is a long way off, what is he going to do? He’ll always be the main event but is he just doing to do random fights against people that don’t mean anything? He’s made his money. He always said that he was going to get rich and get out. He’s certainly got rich. The last part is to get out. If he can’t beat Poirier and can’t fight for the belt anytime soon, then what?”

UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3 takes place Saturday, July 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
