Derrick Lewis says he thwarted would-be car thief; video shows arrest being made

0 7

Talk about picking the wrong vehicle to try to break into.

Derrick Lewis, the man who shares the record for most knockouts in UFC history, revealed on Tuesday that he was forced to take the law into his own hands – literally – to stop a man from breaking into his truck.

The UFC heavyweight contender shared a video on his Instagram account of Houston police placing a man under arrest with his head wrapped in bandaging. He then panned to his truck, which had damage from an apparent forced entry attempt that was thwarted by Lewis.

“Motherf*cker tried to break into my sh*t,” Lewis said in the video.

Lewis also included the caption: “Mofo pick [sic] right/wrong car to break into. HE’S OK #herbdeanfault”

It appears Lewis caught the man in the act and had to take action before police could arrive on the scene. He posted an image of his fist to his Instagram Stories, showing some minor bruising to the knuckles on his right hand. “Satisfaction” and “He’s OK” were included on the picture.

Additional details about the suspect and potential charges are unknown as of this writing. The Houston Police Department did not immediately respond to MMA Junkie’s request for additional details about the arrest.

Lewis (25-7 MMA, 16-5 UFC) is currently the No. 3 heavyweight in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings. He’s coming off a “Knockout of the Year” candidate over Curtis Blaydes this past February and is expected to challenge Francis Ngannou for the UFC title in his next fight. It would be a rematch of Lewis’ unanimous decision win at UFC 226 in July 2018.

According to UFC president Dana White, Lewis vs. Ngannou 2 could happen as soon as August.
