Check out which fighters won performance bonuses from UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler

The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas was home to a great night of fights at UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler. The card saw four (T)KOs, three submissions, and five decisions, including one split-decision.

The Fight Pass prelims opened with Christos Giagos defeating Sean Soriano by D’Arce choke in the second round—a sensational way to kick off the event. That was followed by Tucker Lutz taking a unanimous decision over Kevin Ahuilar. Prascila Cachoeira upset tghe odds when she scored a TKO over Gina Mazny after a controversial standup by referee Mike Beltran.

The regular prelims started with Andrea Lee taking a limb tonight when she secured an armbar over Antonina Shevchenko—a much needed win to break a three-fight skid. Jordan Wright needed just 64 seconds to take out Jamie Pickett via TKO. Lando Vannata grabbed a split-decision victory over Mike Grundy in a hard-fought battle. Rounding out the undercard was Andre Muniz securing a round 1 armbar over Jacare Souza—a sentence I never thought I’d type, but here we are. Adding insult to injury, Muniz snapped Souza’s arm. Like the tru OG that he is, Jacare didn’t even flinch.

Opening the main card was another candidate for fight of the year when Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos let it all hang out in the octagon, exchanging huge punches and kicks, with both displaying a level of toughness that most aspire to but never quite reach. In the third round, Burgos finally succumbed to a massive right hook in the third that took a moment or two to register, but when it did, Burgos was done and the ref waved it off. Outstanding fight. Katlyn Chookagian got the unanimous decision win over Viviane Araujo doing what she does best, staying active. Rogerio Bontorin took a unanimous decision victory over Matt Schnell in an exciting, bonkers contest that saw all manner of exciting strikes (hello flying knee in the third, Bontorin).

The co-main event saw Beneil Dariush get a a takedown early and control Tony after a brief, wild standup exchange that Beneil got the better of. In the first round alone, he maintained three-plus minutes of control. In the second stanza, Beneil ended up locked in a D’Arce for about a minute but was able to escape without issue. After that, Beneil stayed in Tony’s guard, just raining down ground-and-pound. Dariush threatened with a tight heel hook and it looked like Tony might tap, but he didn’t and finally escaped, but Dariush ran away with the first two rounds easily. Rinse and repeat an insane amount of control time for Dariush in the third. All signs point to Tony Ferguson finally starting to show his age and battle-wear. Dariush won the unanimous decision and then called out Elon Musk (no joke) and asked him for a car.

The main event saw a wild round 1 with Oliveira getting an early rear-naked choke locked in only to have Chandler escape then turn the fight around to where “Do Bronx” came dangerously close to being finished. He turned it around in spectacular fashion in the second round when he clipped Chandler with a left that sat him down. Chuckie Olives chased him down, throwing everything but the kitchen sink, forcing Tan Dan to intervene. Charles Oliveira is the new lightweight champion of the world.

Performance of the Night: Charles Oliveira and Christos Giagos

Christos Giagos (D’Arce choke at 1:01 of round 2), Priscila Cachoeira (TKO (strikes), 4:51 of round 2), Andrea Lee (armbar, 4:52 of round 2), Jordan Wright (TKO (strikes), 1:04 of round 1), Andre Muniz (armbar, 3:39 of round 1), Edson Barboza (KO (punches), 1:17 of round 3), and Charles Oliveira (TKO (strikes) :19 of round 2) all scored finishes in their respective bouts but it would be Charles Oliveira and Christos Giagos taking the performance bonuses in Houston.

Fight of the Night: Barboza vs. Burgos

Tucker Lutz (30-27, 29-28, 29-28), Lando Vannata (29-28, 27-30, 30-27), Katlyn Chookagian (29-28, 29-28, 30-27), Rogerio Bontorin (30-27, 29-28, 29-28), and Beneil Dariush (30-27 x3) all went the distance but it would be Edson Barboza’s sensational fight with Shane Burgos that would take fight of the night cashola.
