No more schedule changes expected in Japan

0 3
Earlier today the JBC (Japan Boxing Commission) and JPBA (Japan Professional Boxing Association) held their latest new corona virus countermeasure liaison council meeting and announced some interesting details about events going forward. Thankfully for once, the announcements were actually positive, after weeks of seeing shows delayed and postponed.

The key thing to take away from the meeting was that there was unlikely to be any more alterations to the schedule of Japanese shows for the rest of the month. So far we've seen shows in Osaka and Tokyo being affectedby the on going state of emergency, though thankfully it appears yesterday's cancellations of the Dangan shows in Sumida will be the last, and that was due to the gym being closed and not the promoter pulling the event.

As a rresult Japanese fans in Tokyo will get shows on May 19th, 20th, 21st and 28th, whils we'll also get shows in Mie and Kobe on May 30th, as planned.

Interestingly it was also revealed that the bouts from the now cancelled shows, which were set for May 22nd and May 23rd, will be put on to other shows in the future, rather than being re-organised as full events.

At the moment fans are allowed in attendance, but there is limitations on numbers and activities at the events, as they continue to struggle with growing cases from the on going pandemic. The events will be allowed to hold no more than 50% of the venues capacity.

One major change is that the Makita Generla Hospital which has been working with the boxing authorities in Tokyo has become a new vaccination site and the East Japan Boxing Association will need a new medical facility for PCR tests and weigh ins.

It was also confirmed that the OPBF rankings will be updated  late due to the effects of the pandemic.
