Photo: Derek Anderson broke more than just his nose against Michael Page at Bellator 258

Derek Anderson will have to mend more than just his nose after his Bellator 258 fight this past Friday.

Anderson (17-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) opened the main card against Michael Page (19-1 MMA, 15-1 BMMA) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and quickly had to contend with Page’s unique style. Eventually, Page drilled Anderson flush in the face with a kick that sat him down.

The kick smashed Anderson’s nose in, and once the cageside doctor got a look at it between the first and second round, he had little choice but to recommend the fight be stopped. That gave Page another TKO win for his highlight reel – and left Anderson’s nose as one of those images most observers won’t soon forget.

But it turns out Anderson broke more than just his nose against Page. Sunday, the welterweight, who had gone more than seven years since the last time he was stopped in a fight, posted on Instagram a photo of a broken hand from the fight.

In addition, Anderson said he went to the hospital four separate times during his training camp for kidney issues.

“Still smiling,” Anderson posted. “Thank you @bellatormma @therealscottcoker Love to be back ASAP but went to the hospital 4 times as I was having kidney failure my whole camp and could hardly train, I wanted to make this fight happen. I’ll be back after a short vacation to recover and now I have some new wounds to lick. To my friends, family, and fans I LOVE you all and don’t worry about the haters I’m happy I get to lead the life I do and criticism is part of it. Broke my hand drawing first blood so there’s that but all respect to @michaelvenompage definitely want to do it again sometime.”

The loss for Anderson snapped a three-fight winning streak, including a win in November 2020 against Killys Mota that came from a head kick, ironically.
