Kanat Islam planning to return to the ring in June

0 6
According to Kazakh news site Vezti.kz unbeaten Kazakh contender Kanat Islam (28-0, 22) [Ислам Канат] is planning to return to the ring in June, though specifics on when, where and who against are currently unclear.

The 36 year old Chinese born US based Kazakh fighter was last seen in the ring in February, when he stopped Ecuadorian fighter Jeyson Minda in 7 rounds. That was his first bout
since October 2019, when he struggled past Walter Kautondokwa.

The article on Vesti.KZ doesn't give much away though it does quote a source in Islam's team stating "A couple of weeks ago, Kanat was in Istanbul (Turkey), and at the moment a he is spending time with his family in Kazakhstan,"

Islam has long promised something big, but in recent years injuries have crippled his career. As a result he has fought only 3 times since an impressive 9th round TKO win against Brandon Cook back in September 2017. Sadly those injuries have taken him from once being a contender on the verge of a world title fight at 154lbs to a bit of a forgotten man, and someone who is, quite clearly, destined to fall short of the hope many fans had for him.

Saying that however we'll look forward to his June bout, and hope it is against someone more testing than Minda, who was poor to say the least.
