Jorge Masvidal had some breaking news for the boxing media during Saturday’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Avni Yildrim event.

Kamaru Usman asked for a Jorge Masvidal rematch, and now he shall receive. On Saturday, “Gamebred” caught up with Boxing Social to confirm that he will fight “The Nigerian Nightmare” for the UFC welterweight title in September.

“Right now, I’m focused on me. Fighting for the belt, which is gonna be in August/September. Actually, September, we just got word on this,” Masvidal said backstage during the Canelo Alvarez-Avni Yildrim event in Miami.

That’s not all. The 36-year-old veteran fighter also revealed his plans to step inside the squared ring and compete under boxing rules, someday.

“I can get into boxing. Of course, I love boxing, and boxing gives the big paychecks,” Masvidal said. “And what I mean is they pay out more for the pay-per-views that we bring in than my current sport.

“So, would I love to be in boxing? No brainer, yes. When the time comes, we’ll cross that bridge, get the right opponent.”

Masvidal last saw action at UFC 251 in July, when he stepped in on six days’ notice to fight Usman for the 170-pound title. He lost by unanimous decision.
