Jake Paul vs Ben Askren tale of the tape: How YouTuber compares to UFC grappler with April 17 boxing bout confirmed

0 10

JAKE PAUL will fight controversial UFC fighter Ben Askren on April 17.

The pair will throw down in a professional boxing match and SunSport has examined how they stack up ahead of the bout.

Paul, 24, has youth on his side and is 12 years younger than former UFC welterweight Askren, 36.

He also technically has more experience with two professional boxing bouts on his record.

They were both knockout wins – albeit against relative nobodies.

Askren has never boxed professionally but has had 22 official MMA fights.

The 5ft 10in American has 19 wins – six by KO, six by submission and seven on points – and only lost twice with one no contest.

Askren is famous for being on the wrong end of the fastest ever UFC knockout.

Jorge Masvidal connected with a flying knee to the head just seconds into their 2019 meeting – with the official victory time noted as 4.9 seconds.

6ft 1in Paul is 7lbs lighter than Askren and has vowed to train with Masvidal to get some tips.

Paul told ESPN: “We’re here in Miami training. I wanted to channel Masvidal’s energy since he’s in Florida.

“I wanted to link up with Masvidal. I’m linking up with Masvidal tomorrow. He’s going to help me train for this fight.

“And hopefully, I can knock out Askren faster than Masvidal did. I know it seems like a lofty goal, but if I can get under 4.9 seconds then I can break his record.”

Paul has 20.3million YouTube subscribers and has a net worth of around £8.39m.

Askren has just 644k Instagram followers and reports put his net worth between £1m and £10m.

Paul is 2-0 as a pro having registered stoppage wins over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, the latter he brutally knocked out last November.

And he is backing himself to do the same to Askren who he reckons ‘won’t even hit me’.
