Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua isn’t the only undisputed fight on Top Rank’s docket. Bob Arum tells talkSPORT that he intends to stage the long-awaited super lightweight showdown between IBF/WBA champion Josh Taylor and WBC/WBO champion Jose Ramirez in the coming months.

He revealed: “I advised Josh that the fight with Ramirez would be in the United States and would take place in early May.

“I had to get him busy getting his visa and all that sort of stuff because they told me Josh wants to arrive in the United States at least a month before that fight.

“He wants to train in our gym – the same gym Tyson Fury trained in.”

This fight has been brewing since Taylor (17-0, 13 KO), coming off an impressive run in the World Boxing Super Series, signed with Top Rank in January of last year. Two things ended up standing in the way: mandatory challengers and COVID. Taylor went on to utterly demolish Apinun Khongong in under three minutes, while Ramirez (26-0, 16 KO) saw two dates fall through before finally getting a chance to narrowly defeat Viktor Postol in August.

Even with tantalizing clashes like Miguel Berchelt vs. Oscar Valdez on the horizon, this one stands out. Both men are come-forward, tough-as-nails bruisers who’ve thoroughly established themselves as the cream of the crop at 140 pounds. Undisputed championships don’t get much better than this; let’s just hope Arum doesn’t try to counter-program Canelo on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
