Kuga and Furuhashi make weight for Japanese title fight

0 8
Tomorrow on Boxing Raise we'll get a brilliant show from Dangan involving several really interesting match ups. One of those will see Yusaku Kuga (19-4-1, 13) [久我勇作] defending the Japanese Super Bantamweight title against mandatory challenger Gakuya Furuhashi (26-8-1, 14) [古橋大輔].

Today the two men took part in their weigh in, and both men made the 122lbs weight limit bang on, whilst looking in incredibly shape.

For Kuga this will be the second defense of his second reign, and comes following an epic title winning performance against Ryoichi Tamura in 2019. Sadly for him his title reign hasn't been the best, blowing out an over-matched foe in his first defense before being stopped, inside a round, by Jhunriel Ramonal in a WBO Asia Pacific title bout at the end of 2019. Since then he has been out of the ring, in part due to Covid19.

Typically an aggressive, come forward fighter there are question marks on Kuga's ability to bounce back from the loss to Ramonal, though he did sound confident in comments made to the media today and seems determined to get his career back on track.

For Furuhashi this will be his third shot at the title, and he sounded hungry for the belt, stating that he will just beat Kuga and take the title. He seemed to suggest that this was going to be a great fight, something that we all assumed anyway, but that he was going to try and get inside where he feels he is better than Kuga, who is feels is better at mid-range.

For fans wanting to watch, the bout will be shown on live on Boxing Raise, with the stream beginning at 17:35 Japanese time.
