Masayoshi Nakatani transfers to Teiken ahead of showdown with Verdejo

0 7
In November Mike Coppinger broke the news that former OPBF Lightweight champion Masayoshi Nakatani (18-1, 12) [中谷正義] would be returning to the ring in December to take on touted Puerto Rican Felix Verdejo (27-1, 17) at the MGM Bubble in Las Vegas.

Today we saw Nakatani back in the Japanese news as he announced that he had transferred gym's leaving the Ioka Gym to move to Teiken.

Nakatani commented on the move, stating:

"I have decided to transfer to Teiken Gym with the kindness of Ioka Jim and Chairman Ioka. I have received the cooperation of many people in the transfer, so I will give back the results from now on. I think I have no choice but to go. I am grateful to Chairman Honda and everyone at Teiken Gym for creating a very good environment. Thank you very much. "

In Japan the gym system acts hand in hand with the promotional system, and often a fighter's gym is their promoter. It is worth noting that Teiken and Top Rank, who will be promoting the Nakatani Vs Verdejo fight, have had a long standing and fruitful working relationship, this is the next bout in that relationship.
