Wanheng and Petchmanee attend press conference to announce WBC world title fight!

0 5
Back in September we reported that WBC Minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin (54-0, 18) [วันเฮง มีนะโยธิน], aka Chayaphon Moonsri, would be defending his title against fellow Thai Petchmanee CP Freshmart (34-1, 22), aka Panya Pradabsri, on November 27th. Today, almost a month away from their bout, the two men attended a press conference to announce the contest.

At today's event the November 27th date was confirmed for the bout, with the contest now set to be held in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. For those curios about TV it will be shown on Channel 7 HD in Thailand, with a time slot between 13:45 and 15:45 local time.

Unsurprisingly the bout bout between Wahenng and Petchmanee will be the main event, with Wanheng looking to record his 55th straight win and his 13th defense of the WBC Minimumweight title. The officials were also confirmed at today's event, with all of them, barring super visor Kevin Noon, being Thai's. This has, reportedly, been given the blessing from WBC head honcho Mauricio Sulaiman.

The main sponsor for the event will be CPF who will be making cheap food produce available in the region in the days around the fight. The plan is to sell cheap food in the region from November 23rd to November 29th.

For us this is the toughest defense, on paper, for Wanheng in quite some time and could either be one final big win for the long reigning WBC champion or a potential passing of the torch to the younger, less well known Petchmanee, who will feel that his time has come. Either way this is one of the most interesting bouts on Thai soil in recent memory and will be a must watch for fans of the lower weights.
