The chairman of Matchroom Sports is said to be recovering following surgery.

Matchroom founder and chairman Barry Hearn is back home recovering after his son, promoter Eddie Hearn, says he suffered from a minor heart attack which required surgery. Eddie says his father is in good spirits and is returning home today to recuperate.

Barry Hearn, 71, built his name and company in snooker before he eventually got into boxing when he promoted some of the bigger stars in the U.K. at the time, including Chris Eubank Sr. and Frank Bruno. Barry has since passed the reigns to the boxing business over to his son Eddie, who has since developed the brand into a international enterprise with his Matchroom USA venture.

Of course all boxing business being shutdown is expected to create some real hardships for certain promoters, as recently mentioned by Dmitry Salita, but Matchroom is one of the big players in the business and is well-suited to weather the storm. We extend our best wishes to Barry Hearn for a full and speedy recovery.
