...But it can only be in South Korea due to his military commitments.

Three years ago, UFC featherweight prospect Doo Ho Choi, aka “The Korean Superboy,” lost an enthralling three-round decision to Cub Swanson at UFC 206. The 2016 “Fight of the Year” was one of the craziest slugfests in recent UFC history, and Choi wants to throw down with Cub once more.

Choi made this post on Instagram following Swanson’s UFC Tampa win over Kron Gracie, which earned him “Fight of the Night” honors in the process.

Swanson’s recent fight was amazing and he is a fighter that I have always respected. I came across his recent interview that he believes that we need to have a rematch in which we owe to the fans. I also strongly feel the same but unfortunately I haven’t finished my military duties where it restricts me from flying overseas. Also I understand that he was just fought in UFC Fight Night 161 and that he would need to rest and recover but if him and the UFC can organize a fight in Busan, I guarantee that it will be the craziest fight of 2019!

There’s obviously mutual interest in a rematch, as Swanson told reporters in the UFC Tampa post-fight media scrum that he’d love to go toe-to-toe with Choi once more.

Choi (14-3) has not fought since a KO defeat to Jeremy Stephens in the UFC St. Louis main event back in January of 2018. After the Swanson bout, fights against Renan Barao and Andre Fili fell through. The hard-hitting Choi has scored knockouts in 11 of his 14 victories, including against UFC veterans Thiago Tavares and Sam Sicilia.

The aforementioned mandatory military service has affected Choi’s ability to make his return to the Octagon, but there will be much anticipation when he does have his next fight.

Whether we get Swanson vs. Choi 2 remains to be seen, but that December 21st UFC show in Busan, South Korea is headlined by a featherweight bout that figures to have “Fight of the Year” potential, as former title challengers Brian Ortega and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung are slated to wrap up the UFC’s 2019 schedule.
