Notes: Magdaleno looked pretty sharp again on Saturday, beating also-ran Rafael Rivera pretty much as he should have, other than it ended on a technical decision and it was a pretty bad cut that could leave him sidelined a bit longer than he might prefer. He’s looked good in the two fights he’s had since moving up to 126 — good enough to at least have a shot when you think about him against the top guys in the division, other than maybe Russell or Stevenson who might just be awful style matchups for him. But even against Santa Cruz or Warrington, I think he’d have a shot, though a clear underdog.

Notes: Navarrete won again over the weekend, smashing overmatched Francisco De Vaca in three. It wasn’t much of a win, but Navarrete has solidified himself as a top super bantamweight alongside Vargas, Roman, and maybe still Rigo, it’s still kinda hard to tell with the Cuban. Sadly, Navarrete isn’t going to be facing any of those guys any time soon, most likely, but the easy win means he’s back quick on Sept. 14.
