GSP uninterested in ‘BS’ UFC politics, will ‘take the holidays’ to decide on future

GSP says he’s not sure if he’s willing to keep dealing with the ‘BS’ that comes with fighting for the UFC.

Georges St-Pierre has recently gone on record to say that he has “fully recovered” and his health issues have been resolved. He says he feels great and is open to being part of big super-fights, but is ultimately unsure if he wants to deal with all the politics that comes along with competing in the UFC.

“Yeah, the thing is, I’m at the point that when I train, I feel very confident, I feel strong, I feel very great. I feel better than when I was 25,” St-Pierre said on the Jim and Sam Show. “But sometimes, I hear a lot of BS stuff, and things, and I’m like ‘do I really want to go back into that circle?’

The decorated two-division champion has more than earned his place in the sport, along with the right to make his own moves. He has the money and the means to legitimately walk away from MMA, so unlike most athletes before him, St-Pierre also doesn’t really need to always bend to the UFC’s will.

For months, Dana White has constantly taken shots at St-Pierre in the media, perhaps trying to sway public opinion and pressure the champion to accept his offers. Unlike the route he went with Brock Lesnar and his title shot, White has also gone on record to say that St-Pierre can’t skip the line and has to fight other contenders first.

The 37-year-old says he only has a few fights left, and is more interested in bouts that can further his legacy, but doesn’t seem to be too willing to go through all the “BS” to get those match ups anymore.

“At this point, I think I’m going to take the holidays and think about it, and see what’s going to happen,” he said about his future.

“Yes, exactly,” St-Pierre said when asked about not wanting to deal with the politics in the UFC. “I understand they have a business to run, but if it’s to go back, and run for another title reign... Can I go back to fight for a title? Then you fight for a title, you have to keep the belt, defend it, and defend it. I don’t want to (put) the whole division on hold.”

St-Pierre previously named Khabib Nurmagomedov as one of the “better” options right now, but he also seems content to retiring on his own terms. If he does indeed call it quits, the sure-fire hall-of-fame fighter would easily be among the greatest to have ever done it in MMA.
