Spoler Alert! - DWTNCS: Brasil signs 11 fighters in 3 events

While fans may know that the American season of DWTNCS is already over, the Brazilian offshoot the show just finished using their new platform to sign a bunch more exciting new talent.

SPOILER ALERT: Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 2018: Brasil took place over several days in early August, in Las Vegas, as a 3-event run. The show is not set to air on TV in Brazil until August 24th. As the results have already been reported, Bloody Elbow is reporting them here. Fans should not read this post if they plan on watching the fights at the time of broadcast and do not want to know the winners.

It looks like Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series is fast becoming the way to get into the UFC. While only in its second year of production, the American version of the show has produced 42 contracts for the world’s largest MMA promotion. That number can apparently be bumped up to 53, with the Brazilian edition of DWTNCS in the books after a 3-event run.

According to reports from maismma.com 11 fighters walked away from 15 bouts – which took place over several days in early August in Las Vegas, NV – with new UFC contracts. Included in the list were a Bellator vet, an LFA vet, and a couple new faces at women’s bantamweight and at men’s light heavyweight.

Augusto Sakai was likely the most notable fighter to pick up a UFC contract over the DWTNCS: Brasil series. The former Bellator heavyweight hadn’t fought for the Paramount Network promotion since dropping a split decision to Cheick Kongo back in May of 2017. But, in the time since, he picked up a 1st Round KO over Tiago Cardoso at Immortal FC 7. His equally quick win over Marcos Conrado Jr. secured his new deal in the Octagon.

LFA veteran Thiago Moises was the other name that may be most familiar to American fans. The American Top Team lightweight was the last RFA champion at 155 lbs, before the promotion was combined with Legacy FC. He lost his belt to Robert Watley in July of last year, but bounced back with a submission win over Jeff Peterson last month at LFA 41. His quick finish of Gleidson Cutis picked him up a UFC contract.

Otherwise the UFC clearly had an eye on filling out some of their shallower weight classes during the show. The three events featured multiple bouts at middleweight, light heavyweight, and women’s bantamweight & flyweight. Unfortunately the results didn’t yield any new talent at 185, however, Vinicius Alves & Johnny Walker should make welcome additions to 205. And Luana Carolina & Mayra Bueno Silva are badly needed fresh faces in the women’s 135 division.
