Anthony Joshua vs. Carlos Takam full fight video highlights

Watch highlights of Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title defense vs. Carlos Takam.

You know a stoppage is bad when even the fans who want their favorite fighter to win are booing the decision. Referee Phil Edwards called off Saturday’s heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) and Carlos Takam (35-4-1, 27 KOs) at the midway point of round 10. Joshua definitely had Takam hurt but not only did Takam not go down (which was the case in round 4) or look to be in danger of going down, he was dodging some of those fight-ending blows by the Brit. It looks to be a bit of home nation favoritism by the ref, and it’s certainly not the first time we’ve seen some premature stoppages by boxing referees in the UK.

Nevertheless, Takam demonstrated great heart and determination, and while he was outclassed and on his way to a loss, he had some positive moments against Joshua, who retained his heavyweight titles in front of 75,000+ at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Joshua remains a hot ticket in his country, and Takam certainly gained even more respect in the ring than when he did by merely accepting the fight on two weeks’ notice.

Check out Mookie Alexander’s play-by-play of the finish:

Round 10 - Have to wonder if Joshua has fatigued. Output isn’t as sharp as it was in the middle rounds. Short right hand by Joshua gets through. What a right hand and Takam might be hurt. Two-punch combo and Takam takes them! More shots by Joshua and Takam has a hell of a chin! And the referee stops the fight standing, and I find it to be early.

Official result: Anthony Joshua def. Carlos Takam by TKO, round 10 to remain the WBA and IBF heavyweight champion
