UFC 217’s Michael Bisping: I will ‘definitely’ fight at least one more time after GSP bout

Bisping: “There will definitely be at least one more fight and who knows? Maybe more after that”.

Although Michael Bisping has flirted with retirement in the lead-up to his middleweight championship bout with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217, ‘The Count’ has promised fans at least one more fight.

Bisping said that, despite being in the game for over thirteen years and having made his professional UFC debut in 2006, he still loves the preparation and grind that comes with an intense training camp.

“I did say in the buildup that this could be my last fight,” Bisping during Thursday’s media call to promote his bout with St-Pierre, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “My wife and some people close to me - you know I’ve done this forever. I’ve been a fighter ever since I was a kid, I’ve been involved with martial arts and professional combat sports my entire life and I’m almost 40 now. You can’t do it forever, and I am the champ, so I’ve accomplished what I want to accomplish.

“That said though, I’ve enjoyed this training camp. I’ve enjoyed the process. I’ve enjoyed being a little bit out of shape and now going to the peak of physical fitness. It’s a great process. It feels good knocking people out in sparring. I live for this s**t. So yeah, there will definitely be at least one more fight and who knows? Maybe more after that. I don’t know though.”

Bisping shocked the world when he knocked out Luke Rockhold to win the middleweight title at UFC 199 and, despite having the most wins in UFC history and beating the likes of Anderson Silva, the Brit is still overlooked by his opponents - even as champion.

The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner believes GSP is in for a rude awakening next week.

“Georges should have stayed retired, he would have forever been a legend but he didn’t, he f**ked it up,” Bisping said. “He’s come out of retirement and he’s fallen into the trap that everyone falls into: He thinks he can beat me.”

UFC 217, which features Bisping vs. St-Pierre in the main event, takes place on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
