Conor McGregor uses homophobic slur in conversation with teammate at UFC Gdansk

UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor could be in hot water.

Conor McGregor was caught on camera using a homophobic slur in a conversation with teammate Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland on Saturday afternoon.

McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion and MMA’s biggest star, talked to “The Russian Hammer” backstage after Lobov’s dominant loss to featherweight Andre Fili at the event, showing support for his SBG Ireland training partner. But while doing so, “The Notorious” used the word “f-gg-t” three times — presumably referring to Lobov’s opponent — as shown in two clips below. (The first video was uploaded by BT Sport UFC’s Twitter account but promptly deleted. A different clip was also uploaded, then deleted, by the UFC’s official Twitter account.)

Neither the UFC nor McGregor himself have yet to comment on the inappropriate language.

Most recently, McGregor made his boxing debut against legendary former world champion Floyd Mayweather, who beat the Irish superstar by 10th-round TKO in the megafight. In his last MMA fight, McGregor captured the lightweight title with a second-round TKO of Eddie Alvarez.

McGregor was the third fighter to become a two-division UFC champion, and the first fighter to hold two belts simultaneously. When he beat Alvarez, he was also the featherweight champion, having knocked out Jose Aldo in December 2015.

Earlier this month ahead of UFC 216, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and then-lightweight contender Tony Ferguson were involved in an incident at a UFC media lunch. Ferguson was upset at the Brazilian for interrupting him, and Werdum exploded, hurling homophobic slurs Ferguson’s way.

Werdum apologized on social media after the altercation. The UFC issued a statement, too, saying it was disappointed in Werdum, who agreed to “perform community outreach within the LGBTQ community” in Las Vegas.

It is not yet clear whether McGregor will face similar punishment.
