UFC Gdansk results: Darren Till wipes out Donald Cerrone in a round

0

Darren Till solidified himself as a welterweight contender with a first-round TKO win over Donald Cerrone in the UFC Gdansk main event.

The UFC Fight Night: Gdansk main event in Poland pitted perennial contender Donald Cerrone against rising welterweight prospect Darren Till. In by far the best performance of his young career, the 24-year-old Till took his time, picked his shots well, and finished the 34-year-old Cerrone with under a minute left in the opening round.

Cerrone immediately shot for a takedown, but Till shucked him off. Till connected a sharp straight left from his southpaw stance. Cerrone did take Till down with an abrupt level change, but Till sprung to his feet. Till landed a stiff jab on Cerrone, and remained on the front foot. Cerrone got cracked by a jab but answered with a body shot, and also stayed active with leg kicks. Till clearly had the advantage in terms of total head strikes, and he was steadily picking Cerrone apart from range. A jab-left hand combo backed Cerrone up, an elbow hurt “Cowboy,” and a slew of strikes had Cerrone turning his back in bad trouble. Cerrone dropped to his knees, Till went for the finish, and Marc Goddard stopped the fight.

Official result: Darren Till def. Donald Cerrone by TKO (strikes) at 4:20 of round 1

In the post-fight aftermath, Till called out Mike Perry, who was on-site at the arena, and they got into a brief shouting match. Till remains undefeated, with an overall record of 16-0-1 in MMA and 4-0-1 in the UFC. Cerrone has now lost three in a row, including two by TKO.
