UFC 216: Will Brooks vs. Nik Lentz cancelled due to ‘medical issues’

0

Nik Lentz has been removed from UFC 216 after last minute medical issues kept him from weighing in.

The weight cut appears to have struck again. The fighter falling prey this time? UFC lightweight Nik Lentz. The ‘Carny’ was scheduled to fight Will Brooks on the prelim card of this weekend’s UFC 216 PPV in Las Vegas, NV. Unfortunately, as ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports, Lentz has been removed from the event following last minute “medical issues,” that kept him from weighing-in.

Brooks will almost certainly be removed from the card as well, as the cancellation comes a little over 24 hours out from fight time. However, he should receive his show money, as he made weight earlier in the day.

The fight was expected to be an important one for Brooks, who entered the UFC with expectations that he would be a title contender in short order. Back-to-back losses to Alex Oliveira and Charles Oliveira have put that goal on ice. Now it seems Brooks will have to wait a while longer to restart his climb to the top of the lightweight division.

UFC 216 goes down this Saturday, October 7th at the T-Mobile arena. The event will be headlined by an interim lightweight title bout between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. Demetrious Johnson defends his flyweight title for the 11th time in the co-main event. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and updates on fight night.
