Sage Northcutt vs. John Makdessi scrapped from UFC 214 lineup
Both Sage Northcutt and John Makdessi will be unable to compete at UFC 214.
With UFC 214 just two weeks away, neither Sage Northcutt nor John Makdessi will compete on the card. The UFC confirmed on Friday that both men suffered undisclosed injuries, so the bout was been canceled.
Northcutt (8-2) was supposed to face Claudio Puelles, but Puelles withdrew from the matchup due to injury. The 21-year-old is returning to lightweight following welterweight losses to Bryan Barberena and Mickey Gall. Makdessi (14-6) has lost three of his last four, including a wheel kick KO to Lando Vannata at UFC 206. The 32-year-old Canadian hasn’t won consecutive fights since 2012-13, when he defeated Sam Stout, Daron Cruickshank, and Renee Forte.
UFC 214 takes place on July 29th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and features three title fights, of which the main one is the highly-anticipated light heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley faces off against Demian Maia in the co-main, while Cris Cyborg and Tonya Evinger fight for the vacant women’s featherweight title. The night’s main card airs live on pay-per-view, with prelims on FXX and UFC Fight Pass.
