Max Holloway has 'no idea' why McGregor would come back to UFC after Mayweather fight

Holloway doesn't think Conor McGregor will return to MMA after the Floyd Mayweather fight.

Conor McGregor is set to earn the biggest payday of his career against boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather in what's being billed as the biggest fight in combat sports history.

McGregor, the current UFC lightweight champion, will take on 'Money' in a 12-round boxing match on August 26, and Max Holloway doesn't think the Irishman will ever return to MMA.

'Blessed', who spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour before Mayweather-McGregor was officially announced, can't see why 'The Notorious' would return to the UFC after earning potentially hundreds of millions in a boxing match.

“That guy gets to choose whoever he wants to fight,” Holloway said, per MMA Fighting's Marc Raimondi. “This guy is not even talking about MMA, so I don’t even feel like we should even be talking about him. But at the end of the day, if you got paid $50 or $75 million would you come back to mixed martial arts after that? Exactly. It’s very tough. I have no idea why he would come back.”

If McGregor does return, however, Holloway is open to a rematch should the Irishman drop back down to featherweight. Holloway, 25, lost to McGregor in 2013 but rebounded with eleven straight wins and is currently the UFC 145-pound champion.

“If they want to fight, they can fight, but at the end of the day we got other guys that’s in here, that’s in MMA, that’s talking about MMA and they’re talking about wanting to fight me. We’re gonna figure stuff out and take it one step at a time.”

Holloway's first title defense hasn't been announced, but it's expected that the Hawaiian will take on Frankie Edgar or Cub Swanson.

Mayweather vs. McGregor is set to take place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
