I will tell ya why....
Like many Warriors fans, I was raised here. If you lived in the bay area, you either loved the 49ers, Giants and Warriors or you loved the Raiders, A's and Warriors. Born in raised in the east bay, you knew who I chose. I went to the Raider games when i was a kid, rode the bus. When we stopped, I said what is that, and my dad said that's where the Warriors play. Sometime soon they won their first championship in Oakland. I remember it vaguely, but it got my attention (I was 6).
My favorite player in the early days was Sleepy Floyd, then Chris Mullin came along, the left hander with the accent (my favorite Raider was also left-handed, Kenny Stabler) and I was hooked. I loved the RUN TMC days, and when they picked up Chris Webber, I thought they were bound to bring home another championship. Like many fans, I cringed and grew frustrated with their struggles through the 90s and early 2000s. When we won, it was a miracle, but losing was easily acceptable. And it shouldn't have been.
There were points when I thought they gotta need a 6 ft 6 guy that can shoot. When are tryouts? When we picked up Baron Davis, I was like finally, maybe we can get somewhere. I believed. The they broke up. One of my most favorite moments came at a game (the company I worked for picked up the tab) when Monta hit a jumper at the buzzer to win . From that moment, I didn't just scan the box scores anymore, I pretty much watched or monitored every game. I was so happy when the team was sold, I had faith that trading Monta was the right thing to do. The ownership I have great faith in and I am proud of the team we have. I love the Warriors because I feel like they are part of me, part of my identity.
Here's a link to the game I referenced, when Monta hit the game winner.
