Isaiah Thomas will miss the remainder of the playoffs with a hip injury

Thomas left Game 2 early.

The Boston Celtics announced on Saturday that Isaiah Thomas would miss the remainder of the postseason. In a statement, the Celtics said the injury initially took place in a March matchup against the Timberwolves, but the injury was aggravated on Friday:

“Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred,” said Celtics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian McKeon. “The swelling increased during the first two games against Cleveland, and in order to avoid more significant long-term damage to his hip, we could no longer allow him to continue.”

Thomas left Game 2 with a strained right hip. At the time, Boston was already down 40 points. Cleveland won Game 2, 130-86, marking the largest margin of defeat for a No. 1 seed. Thomas’ hip was also an issue in the previous playoff series against the Washington Wizards.
