Former Siena standout Marc Brown set for Hall induction

School's career scoring leader heads class for Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame

When Marc Brown gets his overdue induction Sunday night into the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame, his coach at Siena will be honored as well.

Bringing in a 5-9, 145-pound point guard out of high school, it's not an easy thing, Brown said, and to give him the keys to the car, he showed a lot of faith in me.

Under the leadership of Deane and Brown, Siena became a nationally recognized program in the late 1980s and 1990s, making the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1989.

Brown remains Siena's career scoring leader (2,284 points) and is second in assists (796, 27 fewer than Ronald Moore, who played in 12 more games).

Siena had no other true point guard on its roster, but Brown, who earned the nickname "Showbiz" with his spectacular ball-handling skills, didn't need an understudy.

Brown, 47, played professionally 16 seasons in Portugal, France, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico.

After retiring in 1987, he succeeded his father, Charlie, as head coach at New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State College).

[...] as you see the NBA, you see what (Boston Celtics 5-9 guard) Isaiah Thomas is doing.
