Preakness 2017: Post positions and morning line odds

0

The 142nd running of the Preakness begins on Saturday evening.

The 2017 Preakness Stakes will begin on Saturday evening from Pimlico in Baltimore. As always, all eyes will be on the winner of the Kentucky Derby from a couple weeks ago, which was Always Dreaming. The horse, which has the majority owners Vincent Viola and Anthony Bonomo, will look to win the second jewel from the Triple Crown over the weekend, along with its jockey John Velazquez.

The $1.5 million Preakness is the shortest of the three Triple Crown races at 1-3/16 miles, which is just a little bit shorter than the Kentucky Derby. The gate draw was announced on Wednesday evening, following by the official morning line odds for all 10 horses in the field.

Per usual, the winner of the Kentucky Derby is typically consistently favored in the Preakness, and such is the case for 2017’s field. After winning the Derby by 2-3/4 lengths a couple of weeks ago, Always Dreaming is currently favored to win with at 4/5 odds, per Preakness odds posted at OddsShark.com.

Classic Empire, who was the Derby’s favorite when the first morning lines were released, has 3/1. The two horses will be racing right next to each other. At the Derby, the two started nine spots away from each other. The Derby’s second-place horse, Looking at Lee has opened with 10/1 odds. Conquest Mo Money and Gunnevera have 15/1 odds, and Cloud Computing is sitting with 12/1 odds to win the Preakness.

The field won’t feature all horses that raced at the Derby a couple of weeks ago — it consists of five horses who did, and five that did not.

We’ll see who will win the 142nd Preakness at Pimlico this year. As always, it should be an exciting finish. You can watch the 142nd running of the Preakness on Saturday on NBC. Coverage begins at 5 p.m., with the undercard shown on NBCSN beginning at 2:30. Post time for the Preakness is expected to be just after 6:45 p.m. You can stream it live on NBC Sports Live Extra, or download the app on any of your favorite devices, as well.
