[Women's Basketball] Madison Sisters Sign With The Saints

Haley and Shelby Madison, who both prepped at St. Joseph High School, have signed their national letters of intent to continue their basketball careers as Saints. 

Haley, who started playing basketball in middle school, is currently finishing  her sophomore year at Lake Michigan College, while Shelby will be graduating from high school this May. At Lake Michigan College, Haley was named District G Honorable Mention All-Conference and to the 2017 District G All Tournament Team.  Haley, who played travel ball with the Illinois Titans and the Illinois Flight Elite, helped the Red Hawks win the Division II Women's Basketball District G Regional Champions in 2016.

Hayley stated, "What made me choose Aquinas was the genuine and warm welcome I got from the campus, the coaching staff, the women's basketball team, and everyone else on campus. The campus is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Moving on from receiving my associates degree in Hospitality Management as of this spring, I look forward to piecing it together with a community leadership degree from Aquinas. It seems like a really unique, exciting, and fun degree. I look forward to it all."

Shelby, who has been playing basketball since the third grade, was a two-time All-State honoree and tallied 1,003 points during her career.  She also achieved honor roll status all four years and was a two-time All-State Academic award winner.  Shelby, who played travel ball with Swift Elite, led the Bears to three district championship appearances.  She also was a three-time All-Conference performer and spent the last two seasons as team captain.

Shelby declared, "Being able to share the court with my sister for another two years is part of the reason why I chose Aquinas. Along with that, the academics and the major I chose will prepare me for future career opportunities, while allowing me to strengthen my faith."

Coach Linda Nash commented, ""We are really pleased that the Madison sisters will be joining the Aquinas College women's basketball team.  They both share a 'hard nose' approach to the game and they are tremendous competitors.  Shelby is a point guard that can handle the ball and she has the ability to make those around her better.  She can flat out score.  Haley comes in with two year's of junior college experience from a top program in Lake Michigan Community College.  She is a player that just seems to be in the right spot at the right time.  She has a nose for the ball and is very active on the boards."

Both sisters plan on studying Community Leadership at Aquinas College.
