Khalid El-Amin wants to join the UConn coaching staff

INDIANAPOLIS — UConn head coach Dan Hurley will have an opening on his staff now that Luke Murray has become the head coach at Boston College.
And former Huskies star Khalid El-Amin is offering his services.
Speaking to TMZ Sports about Hurley making his third Final Four in four seasons, El-Amin said: “”It just speaks to his testament how good of a coach he is, but I think how good of a coaching staff that he has been able to put together, and I look forward to trying to be on that staff one day in the near future.
“I think I have a lot to offer the game. I just need an opportunity to show my worth.”
As a sophomore, El-Amin was the starting point guard on the Huskies team that won the 1999 NCAA Championship game over Duke. In 2000, he was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls before playing overseas until 2017.
He said he’s fine with UConn being “overlooked” in this Final Four against Illinois despite winning two of the last three NCAA championships.
A lot of folks, including former Michigan star Jalen Rose and former Arizona standout Miles Simon, believe the Michigan-Arizona game is the real national championship.
“Just let them overlook us,” El-Amin said. “No problem.”
“We’re okay with that, you know. Let Arizona, let Michigan duke it out, and we’ll try to take care of business against Illinois, and we’ll see who meets up on Monday night.”
UConn also has associate head coach Kimani Young, who is often linked to various head coaching jobs, on staff, as well as assistant Mike Nardi, who was on the bench at Villanova for Kris Jenkins’s game-winning shot in the 2016 NCAA championship game and at UConn for Braylon Mullins’s game-winning 35-foot 3-pointer against Duke in the Elite Eight.
